For the seventh time, employees at the King City Key Bank made a trip May 25 to ChristieCare in Lake Oswego for the bank's annual "Neighbors Make a Difference Day," and this time they indoctrinated a new employee - branch manager Lynette Nelson.
Key Bank employees spend half a day annually volunteering at a facility close to their hearts, which for this group is ChristieCare, formerly called Christie School. It serves families and children with physical, psychological, emotional and social issues.
The King City group again worked with Lake Oswego Key Bank employees plus several others from different departments for a total of about 15 people.
After closing the banks at noon, employees traveled to the campus ready to work.
"By the time we got there, the barbecues were hot and ready to go," said teller Jan Compton, who added that Tony and Tina Slyter, owners of the King City Grocery Outlet, provided all the food and beverages for the cook-out. "We couldn't have done it without them."
Once lunch was served to all the kids and staff, the Key Bank employees hit the grounds, where they did a lot of pruning, planting and spreading bark chips provided by ChristieCare.
"I still have the blackberry scratches on my arms," said teller Danya Anderson a fw days later.
The plan was to work until 4 p.m., but the group got routed out a little early after a thunder-and-lightening storm hit.
